THE ROLE:

Mechanical Engineer | Innovative Life Sciences Construction Company | RETAINED

DESCRIPTION:

This retained search is being conducted on behalf of our innovative client who is a modular provider of cleanrooms, clean spaces, and cold storage solutions.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing construction documents inclusive of all associated mechanical system calculations, equipment scheduling and specification, and code compliance review. Working under the direct report of the Director of Mechanical Engineering, the Mechanical Engineer shall coordinate with internal and external engineers, architects, estimating & construction teams, as well as clients and subcontractors from conceptual design through construction completion.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS COMPANY AND ROLE:

  • Plumbing experience and professional registration are a plus but not required.

  • This individual must pay attention to detail and have good organization and multi-tasking skills.

HIGHLIGHTS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works alongside management providing project approach and execution strategy including project design concepts, flow diagrams, preliminary duct / piping plans, and equipment selections for sales and estimating.

  • Fosters client relationships to ensure complete satisfaction on current opportunity and positions company for future repeat opportunities with client.

  • Assists with project’s re-construction estimated budget, scope, and schedule. Works with outside engineers and architectural firms to manage projects.

  • Leverages understanding of building processes and systems to establish project milestones, project guidelines, and deadlines.

  • Collaborates with the design, manufacturing, field labor and management divisions, external vendors, and subcontractors inputs and deadlines.

  • Ensures all materials, trades and labor scopes are defined, submitted, and procured as required to execute the project.

  • Develops and maintains cost control/scope control procedures, billing/collection procedures, change management control and procedures, status reports (weekly, monthly, etc.).

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6-10 years of experience in mechanical design for Life Science Facilities.

  • Bachelor’s of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical building systems including:

o HVAC design and psychrometric analysis.

o Heating and Cooling systems design.

o Building control systems.

  • Basic knowledge of:

o Process containment and segregation methods.

o Particulate management strategies.

  • Proficient in the use of BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, etc).

  • Proficient in the use of Bluebeam Revu and MS Office.

  • Knowledge and understanding of building systems and construction methods.

  • Experienced in interpretation and application of national building codes & mechanical

  • standards (ICC, ASHRAE, SMACNA, etc.) and energy codes (IECC, CA Title 24, etc.) and

  • generating supporting code compliance documents (COMcheck).

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
